Coplay pool is going to the dogs.
Pooches are actually invited to swim in the pool for the final hour of the 2014 season Sunday, Aug. 24.
After the one-hour swim, the pool closes for the season. It will be drained, cleaned before it opens next summer, said Steve Burker, chairman of the borough parks and recreation committee. He is also chairman of Coplay Community Days, which is hosting the doggie paddlers.
Dogs are allowed to come to the pool before the last hour but they can swim only from 5 to 6 p.m.
Burker said all dogs, regardless of size or breed, are welcome.
"You got to have control of your dog," he said.
Burker said he researched it and found other pools have had similar programs that were successful.
"Why not let the dogs come and swim for the last hour?" Burker said.
Dog owners will pay a $1 entrance fee to bring their dogs into the pool area.
Proceeds will benefit Peaceable Kingdom, a no-kill animal shelter in Whitehall.
