The second family night at the borough park will be on Aug. 13, compliments of the recreation committee. It will be a movie night and ice cream social with a theme of airplanes and with a rain date of Aug. 14. Children are invited to create cardboard-box planes together with parents and grandparents. The decorated boxes should be big enough for the children to sit inside while watching the movie "Planes" at the park pavilion.

Businesses will be donating raffle prizes, and there will be refreshments to purchase. Proceeds from refreshments sales and fundraisers will be turned over to the Catasauqua Area Food Bank, along with any food donations brought by residents.

The remaining two summer concerts hosted by the rec committee will be held on the following evenings, beginning at 7 p.m.:

· Aug. 8: Wicked Beaver Rock Band

· Aug. 22: Caribbean Steel Rhythms

The North Catasauqua Betterment Committee has been hosting a series of car cruises at the borough park this summer. Check out displays of classic and antique cars at the final car cruise Sept. 1, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Food, door prizes, a raffle and music add to the fun.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., will have a half-price sale on women's slacks, capris, shorts and swimwear and men's slacks and shorts through Saturday, Aug. 9. Proceeds from the Thrift Shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

Save the date – the eighth annual Best of North Catasauqua Autumnfest and Car Show will take place at North Catasauqua Park 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12. There will be a vendor market, food court and live music as well as children's activities and contests. The community event is hosted by the North Catasauqua Betterment Committee.
