Camp Cementon heads out of this world
This summer is flying by at Camp Cementon.
Week 5 was themed outer space. The campers and counselors spent each day doing futuristic and space-related activities.
We started the week on Monday playing all the camp's most popular games such as silent ball, night at the museum and Pac-Man. As always, we spent almost every afternoon in the pool, cooling off and playing water games.
On Tuesday, we made slime. Each camper got to help mix the ingredients and chose a color. They all took a little container home to show their family and friends. The slime was a huge success, as many campers brought it back to camp each day for the rest of the week.
Going along with the outer space theme, our field trip Wednesday was to the DaVinci Science Center at Cedar Crest College. Our campers had the opportunity to feel starfish, build block structures, experiment with gravity like the astronauts, complete brain twisting mind puzzles, sit in a Mack truck, crawl through a tunnel and freeze their shadows. These were just some of the amazing exhibits we experienced while at the DaVinci Center. The kids and the counselors had a great time.
Our campers did a service project during the week as well. On Thursday, after playing games all morning, Camp Cementon decorated and wrote cards to children recovering from illnesses and injuries in local hospitals. Each card had a kind and heartfelt message with creative pictures or games included for the other children to enjoy. We were very proud of the time and effort our campers put in to make these cards meaningful.
Each Friday is our dress up day and this week it went along with our theme of outer space and the future. Some of our campers, Jackson M. and Ryan S., created homemade robot suits. They looked absolutely great. Other campers dressed up in outfits that showed what they wanted to be in the future, such as Evan K. who dressed as an IronPigs player. All the costumes and outfits were super creative and exciting.
Also, each Friday, counselors announce campers of the week. Jess S. and Aaron S. took home that honor. They participated in each activity, held a positive attitude and were overall great during the week. Congratulations to both campers.
Next week is the famous Camp Olympics. Counselors and campers are looking forward to an exciting week of friendly competition with many games and activities.
