Some district salaries increase
Parkland School District central office personnel and Act 93 administrators will receive a 2.5-percent salary increase for 2014-15.
At the June 24 meeting, the board approved District Superintendent Richard Sniscak's salary of $164,765; Assistant Superintendent Rodney Troutman's salary of $145,380; and Director of Business Administration John Vignone's salary of $146,027 for the new school term.
The Act 93 group includes other administrators throughout the district.
Salaries range from $136,245 for the director of student services to $58,004 for a facilities supervisor.
The high school principal will be paid $123,947; middle school principals $115,520; and elementary going from $99,425 to $113,074.
Salaries of teachers and support staff are determined through contracts and are not included in the administrative group whose raises were just authorized by board action.
In other business, the board approved the annual special tax of 0.1 mill for the Parkland Community Library.
Insurance premiums were approved for 2014-15, including $759,714 for Workers' Compensation; $409,910 for property, casualty, and automobile coverage; $44,935 for excess liability; $46,776 for student accident insurance; $31,905 for school board legal liability; $19,168 for cyber liability; and $18,675 for the boiler and machinery premium.
John Monahan of New Tripoli was hired as instructional supervisor at an annual salary of $87,000.
Approved at budget seminar, this is restoration of a position eliminated in 2012 due to budget constraints.
Under a new teacher effectiveness program prescribed by the state Department of Education, the job of supervising instruction has become more time consuming.
Monahan will focus on supervision of teachers at the classroom level and work toward improving the use of data in the supervision process.
