LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Trojans remain unbeaten

Summer league basketball is about opportunities. Teams are trying to determine which types of systems and players will work out best come the season in the winter.

The Parkland boys basketball team will have a very different look to it coming off a District 11 championship last year. The Trojans will have to replace four starters and seven seniors which were the core of the team's run to two straight district titles, and dominating performances in the Lehigh Valley Conference.

One of the players that will be looked at to step in and contribute more this year than he did in the past is rising junior Jack Dreisbach.

Last Tuesday evening Dreisbach contributed eight points, one rebound, and one assist as Parkland (8-0) handled Dieruff 65-48 at Cedar Beach park to remain undefeated in the Stellar summer league.

"It's been a good summer so far," Dreisbach said. "We had a lot of seniors last year, so we're just trying to play together and get a good rhythm going. A lot of our guys have been playing together for a while so there is some good chemistry."

There will need to be chemistry for the Trojans to repeat the success that the senior class has left behind from the last two seasons. And with a mixture of seniors, juniors, and sophomores contributing, Parkland will look to use the summer circuit to once again show why it is the team to beat in the LVC.

A starting lineup that featured seniors Justin Jones and Kevin Delourie, juniors Kyle Stout and Dreisbach, and sophomore Sam Iorio, there is a mixture of talent and youth, but not a lot of varsity experience.

"It hasn't been too hard adjusting," Dreisbach said about the added playing time and new role. "I played some minutes last year and played a lot on JV so I was still able to play. I just need to be more aggressive this year and try to score more because I will be in more situations this year where I'll have to score."

Iorio (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Stout (9 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds) will also be relied upon heavily, and each had a big part in Tuesday night's game as the Trojans raced out to a 36-21 halftime lead, and were never really challenged.

After expanding the lead to as much as 25 midway through the second half, the Huskies pushed their deficit to 17 to give the Trojans a bit of a scare, but there was not much left but to run out the clock.

Compared to last year, this Parkland team will have some underclassmen leading the way, and they look to become leaders for their young team.

"I'm just looking to be more confident and get the guys to where they need to be," said Dreisbach. "We just need to stay composed."

Delourie tallied seven points, three rebounds and a steal, and Jones contributed seven points, four rebounds, and an assist for Parkland.
