The Whitehall Township Fire Department responded last Friday morning to a report of a fire at the Lafarge Cement Plant, Cementon.
Firefighters quickly provided assistance in securing the area. Reportedly a structure where coal is stored caused the fire.
Fire Chief Robert Benner said the fire department received the call 8:41 a.m. Within minutes of arriving at the plant, Benner said Lafarge personnel used fire extinguishers to put out the small fire.
The plant sustained no damage, Benner said. Benner also said no firefighters or plant workers were injured.
"We put two trucks of water on the coal," Benner said.
According to Benner, it is the second time in the past several weeks the township fire department has been summoned to the Lafarge plant on a report of coal burning.
The plant uses coal and other materials to heat its kilns during the cement making process.
