Whitehall Township is looking into adding another park and playground site in the North Coplay region of the township.
The idea for establishing another recreation area results from the Fox Hollow housing development, the mobile home park and the older, established residential area.
The board of commissioners recently said a meeting will take place Tuesday, May 27, at Fox Hollow, off Coplay Road. The meeting will include a site visit to explore the possibility of adding a new park area.
Commissioner Gerard Palagonia made the request.
New play equipment for the Village Green lot could be in place before the end of the month. The equipment for the pre-school children has been ordered and will be installed by township personnel.
In other business during the meeting, the martial arts program has shown a decline in participation.
Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr., said the decline resulted from the instructor asking that the price be raised.
In other recreation activity, the parent-tot swim lessons are underway and the indoor aqua aerobics program continues.
The recreation department continues to operate the facility rentals at the West Catasauqua Park and Cementon Park.
Township crews continue daily maintenance along the Ironton Rail-Trail. Paving is planned this year on the IRT spur, from the MacArthur Road overpass to the North Whitehall Township boundary. Work continues on the rail car near the IRT trail at the township parkway.
