Streets will be swept next week
Residents of Coplay should be on a notice as streets will be swept May 15 and 16.
A professional company will be in town these two days.
On May 15, Front, Third, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth, 11th, Cherry, Chestnut, Keefer, Maple, Oak, Center, Hokendauqua, Bridge and Poplar streets and Center Circle will be swept. On Friday, Second, Fourth, Sixth, Eight, Ninth, 12th, Lehigh, Coplay and Wall streets, along with Schreiber Avenue, Saylor and Saylor Circle, Magna and Magna Circle East sand West, Taper, Margaret, Barbara, Catherine, and Bernice drives will be swept.
Residents are asked to sweep the gravel from their sidewalks onto the street prior to street sweeping. Recycling will not take place May 25. It will rather resume May 22. Public Works personnel will post "No Parking" on the streets. Ignoring such notice will result in the vehicle ticketed.

"Friday Night at the Bund," has begun at the Coplay Saengerbund Pavilion, Fifth Street and Schreiber Avenue. The fun continues despite damage due to a snowstorm to the pavilion on the west side. The building has been replaced, however. The festivities began last Friday with the Toga Party band on stage. Upcoming events include, tomorrow evening with New Constitution performing, She Said Sunday on May 16 Alias on May 23 and Common Bond on May 30. Gates open 5 p.m. The kitchen is open.

Lafarge Cement Company and the borough are again joining forces with the an annual tire drop-off. The event allows residents to dispose of their used and old tires, free of charge. It will take place this Saturday at the Coplay Parkway lot on North Second Street. All tires will be accepted, with the exception of large truck tires, ATVs, motorcycle or bicycle tires.
Remember, leaving tires outside, where they accumulate standing water attracks misquitos and poses a health issue.

The postal carriers annual food drive will be held Saturday.
Residents are asked to place canned and boxed food on their porches for pickup. Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association, which operates a community food bank, will assist postal carriers in picking up the bags and boxes of food.

There is a heavy police presence in the borough. Although nothing out of the ordinary is happening when it comes to crime, the increased police presence is the result of specialized training take place.
The on-hands training indoors is taking place at the municipal building auditorium, as well as outdoors.
