While flooding was a serious problem in the region last week, it had no major impact in Whitehall Township.
Storms hit the Lehigh Valley early last week, bringing unrelenting rain to the area.
Normally, such conditions would cause the Coplay Creek to overflow and cause the township to close some roadways. However, road closures were not needed this time.
In the past the township closed Lehigh Street, at the Hokendauqua Park and Playground, and Water Street in Darktown until the water subsided.
On the south side of the Hokendauqua Park and Playground, the Coplay Creek flowed over its banks, but barricades that were set up prevented the water from causing issues.
The water didn't impact, Lehigh Street, Darktown or Eberhart Road.
Township Mayour Edward D. Hozza Jr. credits the two "storm water cells" that were constructed as keeping the water in check.
A new bridge over the Coplay Creek on Lehigh Street played a major role in keeping the road open, as storm water inlets were part if its design.
