The Whitehall-Coplay Middle School may soon be getting a new gymnasium floor.
At a school board committee meeting Monday, board members discussed the damaged floor.
Rich Legath, the district's supervisor of buildings and grounds, and Phil Bankos, assistant supervisor of buildings and grounds, said the problem with the floor became apparent earlier this year.
According to Bankos, the district called in an engineer to conduct an investigation of why the floor is rotting.
His findings were inconclusive.
However, the cause of the rot is believed to have come from an air conditioning unit installed in the gym, which may be causing moisture to rise up from under the floor, damaging the wood.
The district is looking to install a new floor with a system that will help maintain the moisture levels so this problem doesn't occur again.
According to district Superintendent John Corby, the cost of the repair project could come from the school district's construction fund.
This depends on the limitations of the bond agreement attached to the fund, which will be explored.
In other business, school board members discussed a joint fuel bid with the Parkland School District.
According to Corby, a joint agreement usually benefits the district.
