Cherry and Ruch streets in Coplay may be among the worst in the borough.
On South Ruch Street, the macadam has lifted up in many areas. Both streets have been in poor condition for some time now. This year's winter storms have only deteriorated the quality of the roads further.
Major upgrades to Cherry and Ruch streets may take place in the near future. Funds have been budgeted in 2014 for repairs to both streets. The work will entail not only resurfacing, but reconstruction as well.
The South Ruch Street project is a joint endeavor with Whitehall Township as the road serves as a boundary between the two municipalities. The Northampton Borough Municipal Authority (NBMA) performed major improvements to its water lines. All utility work is completed in advance of the road work set for this summer.
Cherry Street, from Keefer Street north to Stone Alley, is also in deplorable condition. The borough fire station is located on Cherry Street, which also serves as a gateway to the American Club of Coplay, whose private roads are in excellent condition, and used heavily for the events held at the pavilion building.
The borough and its public works department are not to be blamed for the condition of the roads. The two busy streets have been getting progressively worse over the years.
South Front Street and some areas of Hokendauqua Street can also use some road repair work.
