Saucon Valley Education Association union members are not satisfied with the school district's possible contract deal.

At the March 4 board meeting, Saucon Valley board negotiator and member of the school board Edward Inghrim presented the deal that would have provided teachers an average of a 1.9 percent raise this year, 2.2 percent raise in 2014-15 and a 2.6 percent raise in 2015-16.

The education association rejected the deal.

Board members, however, unanimously accepted the proposal signed in January, which gives the union 30 days to reconsider their rejection. Within the next 30 days, the association will review the agreement.

"We didn't get everything we wanted but we felt it was a fair compromise on the part of the fact finder," Inghrim said.Union representative Theresa Andreucci said union members called the salary schedule "confusing." Union members also expressed concern over little support for professional development.

"We believe taxpayers need to get more value for their money in terms of continuing education," Inghrim said.Inghrim also said the board hopes to increase employee health care cost from 7 percent to 13 percent.

Andreucci called the increase high. Pursuant to the possible deal, the deductible for a family would top $700 and the monthly share would be $170.
