Winning lottery ticket sold in Coplay

There's a buzz in Coplay.

A couple purchased the winning Pennsylvania Lottery Big Five ticket Feb. 28 at the Coplay News Agency Live Bait & Tackle Shop, entitling them to the $450,000 cash prize.

The shop is no stranger to patrons purchasing winning tickets.

"I have to respect the request from the couple who asked they wish to remain anonymous," Kenneth Mack said. Mack owns the store along with his wife Samantha.

The couple resides in Coplay. Pennsylvania is one of several states that publicizes lottery winners. That disclosure is expected to take place April.

"I was so excited, my hands were shaking," Mack said. "I went back to the store, opened up and figured who may have the winning ticket."

"I called them up," he continued. "They had not known it. The ticket was still in their car."

The couple had the ticket verified by the state lottery commission. Mack said the couple was "very excited, hugging each other in disbelief," on finding out they won the lottery prize.

Mack will receive $500 from the Pennsylvania Lottery Commission for selling the winning ticket, which included the numbers 11, 18, 27, 37 and 41.

"I will give the $500 to my employees, they deserve it," Mack said.

After taxes are deducted from the winning proceeds, Mack said the couple will receive between $320,000 and $330,000. The couple chose their own numbers, rather than have a lottery ticket machine pick them.

More than a year ago, a man purchased a winning lottery ticket at Mack's store receiving $108,330. The winning ticket then was bought by the man's mother.

"I have never seen the man," Mack said.

Since January, the wall borders at the store are filled with winning lottery numbers and instant ticket winners, the dates, first names and amounts won, in black marker, all printed. One person, Mike, received $11,000 in multiple winnings. Others received from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars in winnings.

As the line formed with people buying daily number lottery tickets, one customer proclaimed, "This is the place to be."
