South Whitehall Township police officer retires

Cpl. Scott Rehrig, 53, was honored for 27 years of dedication to the South Whitehall Police Department at a recent commissioners meeting.

Rehrig, whose retirement was effective Feb. 28, served the township as a patrol officer, field training officer and narcotics investigator since he was hired Oct. 13, 1986.

A graduate of Lehighton Area High School, Rehrig attended Lehigh County Community College, Schnecksville, in the criminal justice program and was Act 120 certified through the Allentown Police Academy in 1985.

He began his career in law enforcement as a part-time patrol officer in Lehigh Township.

Promoted to corporal in 2001, Rehrig was a shift supervisor in the patrol division and an NRA certified firearms instructor since June 1995.

"This is a celebration of a career and a move to a new position in his life," Police Chief Thomas Toth said. "I wish him all the luck in the world. I'm pretty sure we will miss Scott more than he'll miss working for us. He always gave 110 percent. We will retire his badge."

Rehrig responded to the compliment.

"I didn't get here alone," Rehrig said. "Thank you to the chief, the community and South Whitehall."
