No parking on Muncipal Drive

The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners adopted legislation banning vehicles from parking on a stretch of Municipal Drive, off MacArthur Road.

The commissioners made the decision and reported that the public works department will post signs advising the public at its Feb. 10 meeting.

Both sides of Municipal Drive, MacAruthur Road/Route 145 to Joab Road will be a no-parking zone for motorized vehicles.

Trucks and other vehicles from the township's public works department utilize Municipal Drive. The public works building is off Muncipal Drive and township vehicles are stationed, repaired and housed at its offices.

Municipal Drive is also the gateway to the township's central offices, meeting room and offices and bays for the Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority.

A residential development, North of Municipal Drive and Faith Lutheran Church are responsible for bringing other traffic to the site.

In other matters, the board approved placement of a stop sign on Kline Alley northbound, at the "T" Oak Alley intersection in West Catasauqua.

Township Surveyor Carl Lagler said the board could approve the stop sign, saying a change in PennDOT regulations allows the township to approve the signs in specific instances withough requiring Penn Dot's consent.

In other business, the board passed legislation amending its zoning ordinance that regulates land use with respect to setbacks for non-residential uses in certain zoning districts. The changes involve minimum lot size, minimum yard requirements, maximum building coverage and dimensional requirements.
