In an ongoing effort to keep the Parkland fleet safe, the school district will be purchasing six 72-passenger buses for a total cost of $515,940, and two 36-passenger buses for a total cost of $163,338.

At the Feb. 18 meeting, the board awarded the bid for the buses to Rohrer Bus Sales, Duncannon.

Payment will be from the capital projects fund.

The board approved four, 15 mph school zone signs for placement along Huckleberry Road and Whitehall Avenue at the Kratzer Elementary School at a cost of $14,000 from the capital projects fund.

A list of 13 contracts for the Kratzer school major renovation and improvement project was approved, ranging from a low of $87,500 to Hazleton Painting for paint finishes to a high of $2.3 million to Bracy Contracting for general trades.

Tom Daniels of the Butz Co. oversaw the bid process and was present to answer questions, but there were none.

The board approved a resolution designating five official local school holidays to be noted on the 2014-15 calendar.

"These are above and beyond the national ho tlidays," Superintendent Richard Sniscak said. "Actually, we did this all along but formalized it now with a resolution."

The five holidays noted in conformance to the Pennsylvania School Code are the Friday after Thanksgiving, Dec. 24, 26 and 31, and the Friday of the spring vacation break.

The board approved the middle and high school summer program dates of June 30-Aug. 7.

The school budget seminar for the 2014-15 term will be 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. April 25.
