Enjoy your fasnachts Tuesday
With Lent approaching, fasnacht doughnuts are a must for many. The Commitment to Family and Commuinty, will have a large number of people picking up the baked treats on March 3. The deadline for orders was Feb. 23. Plain, preferred by most in the tradition, is followed by glazed, powdered and cinnamon-coated. Pickup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 3 at the CFC social hall on Cherry Street. Shoofly pies and raisin bread were also in demand.

The Oswald family, whose South Second Street home incurred serious damage from a recent fire, has many in the community helping out with baked sales and other fundraising projects. Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association is chipping in a $100 donation, a small way to lend assistance to a family who lost all its possessions.

With Coplay Community Days months away, the latter part of August, its longest playing band, Johnny Dee Orchestra, will not be on the bandstand. Johnny Domitrovits has retired. In the polka band's place, the committee has reported the Walt Groller Orchestra will be on the bandstand, the first time Groller, of Whitehall, will play Community Days.

A reminder, for those planning to attend the Mardi Gras, New Orleans style food and game night Feb. 28 at St. Peter's Social Hall on Fifth Street, the program has been cancelled because of a lack of interest by the public. Coplay Public Library was to hold the event as a fund raiser.

With spring primary elections several weeks away, there are no local elective offices on the ballot this year. The office of governor, state representative and other state and federal offices, will be on the ballot for Coplay voters.
