Board approves network upgrades

Parkland School Board has approved a $528,138 proposal from integraONE to upgrade the district's wireless network infrastructure, including access points, switches and controllers.

IntegraONE was also the contractor selected for a $121,315 project to upgrade the district's network core router.

During the workshop portion of the Jan. 22 meeting, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kelly Rosario presented a draft proposal for a new elementary report card designed for compatibility with Common Core standards.

The report card includes three main sections on which students will be graded: Characteristics of a Successful Learner; Core Academics; and Encore Subjects, which are art, media, music and physical education.

Each chief category contains several qualities, skills or subjects on which students will be evaluated.

Descriptions of curriculum and topics of study are also provided, along with space for teacher comments.

The report card is planned for implementation during the 2014-15 school year.

The board accepted retirements of many long-term employees, most effective at the end of this school year.
