Psychic was a success, Rader reports
Upper Macungie supervisors met for their last regularly scheduled meeting of the year.
After the minutes were approved and the treasurer's report read, Supervisor Kathy Rader gave the recreation board report.
The Night with Laurie Moore, a local psychic, was a huge success and residents attending asked for more.
The recreation board will try to schedule her for next year.
Rader asked supervisors to approve a raise in the fee for the Laurie Moore program from $8 to $10.
She also asked them to make the recognition celebration for volunteers an annual event.
Rader also noted there are openings on the recreation board and volunteers are needed.
In other matters, Solicitor Andrew Schantz laid out a proposal for a conditional use for the manufacturing of non-hazardous chemicals at 7566 Morris Court.
The board, after review, granted the proposal.
Another conditional use proposal was in reference to the reduction of the number of parking spaces for an apartment complex.
Woodmont at Upper Macungie, on Werley Road, is constructing a 288-unit apartment development.
Minimum number of spaces would be 683 but the developer is requesting a reduction to 504 spaces with 51 reserved for future if needed.
Attorney Jim Preston represented the developer and agreed to post a letter of credit with the township for the project.
After some discussion, the board voted in favor of the proposal.
After this approval, the preliminary plan for the development was placed before supervisors for review.
The township planning commission recommended approval with numerous conditions.
Supervisors recommended approval pursuant to the conditions.
These conditions will be addressed on the final plan and will be reviewed by the planning commission at the developer's next submission.
Police Chief Edgardo Colon told supervisors the planned truck inspection area was proceeding forward.
He is awaiting comments from PennDOT.
Colon noted there are some scams being perpetrated within the township and residents should be aware.
The drug drop-off box for unused medications will be set up in the lobby of the police station.
Total incidents for November 2013 were 632.
Colon asked the board to award two officers promotions.
He recommended Joseph Wilson be promoted from lieutenant to assistant chief and Peter Nickischer be promoted to commander of criminal and community service division.
Both were approved by supervisors.
Rader requested the January meeting be changed to 7:15 p.m. following the re-organization meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 6.
The board of supervisors and the township authority will reorganize that day.
At the end of the meeting, Supervisor Sam Ashmar thanked Supervisor Ed Earley for his many years of service on the board.
Ashmar said his input will be missed by all.
Earley said it was a pleasure and an honor to serve the township.
He was given a standing ovation by the audience.
