In a Dec. 16 special meeting that lasted barely 10 minutes, Coplay Borough Council passed its 2014 budget.

The spending plan, which includes no tax increase, played second fiddle to resident complaints about an ongoing trash problem at 1102 Center St.

During public comment at the beginning of the meeting, Ron Gollie, of 1022 Center St., asked what would happen if he continually broke borough code by storing garbage in front of his garage.

He presented his question as a hypothecial, declining to give the address where the alleged offense was taking place.

Neighbor William Ketterer, of 1010 Center St., gave the address, however.

Gollie said the garbage left outside at 1102 Center St. includes three 30-gallon cans filled, dog food bags filled with garbage, a black bag filled with garbage and several small boxes filled with garbage and more.

Council President Lou Bodish said Gollie should talk to code enforcement officer Ron Helman to find out what would happen in the hypothetical situation

"I know where this train is traveling," said Councilman Charles Sodl.

He promised to get an answer for Gollie and Ketterer.

Ketterer also said he was concerned that sidewalks at 1102 Center St. had not been cleared of snow and that this would be an ongoing problem this winter.

He said his mother lives at 1106 Center St. and he is concerned about the difficulties of walking from one home to the other.

"We'll have an answer for you," said Bodish.

No one commented on the budget.
