LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

N. Whitehall board tables Strawberry Fields

The proposed Strawberry Fields senior community was on the North Whitehall supervisors agenda again.

This time, the developer was seeking approval of a lot line change, which would create the 25-acre lot necessary to proceed with the plan.

A 3.11-acre parcel is proposed to be added to the 23.61-acre lot to create the desired lot size.

The net lot size would then be the 25 acres necessary to proceed with the development.

Supervisor Steve Pany took issue with the plan saying he wanted to see the right-of-way at the intersection of Clearview and Overlook roads shown on the plan and the road realigned where it comes close to a neighboring pond.

Pany said the road right-of-way was necessary to improve the intersection in the future.

The developer's representatives said this was not needed for a simple lot line adjustment but the board voted to table the plan until these details are included.

Several people in the audience had questions about the plan.

Jeanene Bauer asked why the proposal was not a subdivision.

Pany replied there were no new lots being created.

Other subdivision activity included the granting of a time extension on the Timm and Nancy Stoudt subdivision.

An extension of 180 days was granted.

Parkland Pointe Lot 13 plan was introduced to the board for approval. This concerned the division of a 3.5-acre lot into three lots.

Pany wanted more detail on the plan relating to the culvert, driveway and location of the water lateral and water line pit.

The plan indicated the water pit was in the driveway. Pany suggested moving it out of the driveway.

The board tabled the plan until the changes are made.

Township Secretary Brenda Norder reported township offices will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1, 2014, for the holidays.

Also mentioned were the final budget meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 and the supervisors reorganization meeting 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2014. Auditors will meet 6 p.m. Jan. 9, 2014.

Supervisors adopted a resolution requiring the township manager to sign the necessary documents with PennDOT relating to the traffic signal at Weis Markets.

North Whitehall Township owns and maintains the existing light. Another resolution was adopted setting the millage for the upcoming year. No increases were proposed.

Solicitor Lisa Young advised the board the escrow money for a subdivision on Mill Creek Road could be released. All necessary requirements relating to the plan were addressed.

Norder told supervisors about a letter received from Glenn Stettler of Mauch Chunk Road.

He is concerned about the traffic on this road and wants school zone signs installed.

As this is a state road, a request must be sent to PennDOT. Norder will forward a letter to the proper department.

A discussion, sometimes contentious, be-tween audience members and the board ensued concerning the sewer treatment plants proposed for the township.

A meeting was held with the Department of Environmental Resources concerning the Coplay Creek plant.

Everything is proceeding regarding this plant that could service Lil' Wolf Mobile Home Park, Lehigh Carbon Community College and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Sand Spring Apartments and the proposed Walmart.

Other possibilities are the businesses on Independence Drive, Jaindl Turkey Farm and theVillage of Orefield.

Ron Roth addressed the board on the sewer subject saying people involved should loose their negativity and fight for the good of the community. He said there are water and sewer problems in the township.

Bauer alleged the Lehigh County Authority is unreliable in its treatment plant operations and the citizens' group, Voice of the Jordan, will continue its court fight on the conditional use approval for the treatment plant on the Jordan Creek.
