Golf course may reopen next year

The Whitehall Township owned golf center on Range Road could reopen in 2014.

The township is currently seeking proposals from those interested in leasing the facility.

Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. told the commissioners the township's purchasing agent spent a considerable amount of time on the requests for proposals for the family golf center, formerly known as Mulligan's Golf Center.

Hozza said one person has expressed an interest and two more may submit proposals. The facility is primarily a driving range and a miniature golf center. Further information can be found on the township's website.

During the past year, township personnel repaired and improved the structures on the site. Several years ago, the township ran the golf range before deciding to lease it.

In a related matter, the commissioners discussed the proposed construction of a fence and bench at Riverwalk Park in Cementon. The project would be built by a Boy Scout seeking to become an Eagle Scout.

Another idea discussed was a possible project at the Village Green children's playground.

The township is continuing to run operations at the West Catasauqua and at the Cementon parks. Officials met the Cementon Athletic Association board members regarding the Cementon Knights cheerleading program and the association's efforts to have the cheerleaders rejoin the Cementon Park Association.

The township's recreation bureau revisited the Egypt Park's application for a $24,000 grant to install a concrete floor in its pavilion. The township purchasing agent was given specifications for review.

Officials also discussed possible grants to fund plumbing improvements for restrooms at Hokendauqua Park.
