Riley's Pub opened its doors on Thanksgiving Day, but, not for profit.

Riley's, located in Egypt in the former Egypt Hotel, served Thanksgiving dinner at no charge for their customers.

General Manager Debbie Sterner did all the cooking, said Riley's owner Bert Charlie.

"She put her heart and soul into preparing each meal," he said.

Bartenders Ed Acevedo and Jen Hudak served beverages and friend Jimmy Wach helped set up for the dinner as well as clean up, he said.

"My mother passed away in September 2013. Although I am not alone, I am one step closer," said Charlie, explaining the reason for opening and serving a free meal, intended for those who might otherwise have nowhere to go.

"Egypt is a small town," Charlie said. "My customers are my family. Many are alone and do not have money. Some do not have heat. They come in and sip on a beer for two hours to keep warm."

A total of 71 people came to eat, sit back and relax while watching a football game and mingling, he said.

"It was a good day," said Charlie. "There was a family of 15 that used the back room, which is usually used for private parties. They brought their own food and enjoyed their thanksgiving dinner together. That is what it is all about."

Riley's will open again next Thanksgiving and will serve a free meal to customers, said Charlie.

Christmas will be nice, he said. Everyone who comes to Rileys will receive a gift.
