Those 55 years and older soon will have a new housing option.

Developers recently presented the details for Taylor Villas, a development of single family condos, to the township commissioners at a recent workshop.

The project had been approved in 2008 but, for economic reasons, construction never started.

The 82-unit development will be located at Church and Bridge streets with homes intended for a growing senior population.

Jerry Fassnacht, owner, and Tony Ganguzza, engineer for Grist Mill Development, said the sewer system for the development will be located along Bridge Street, instead of along the Ironton Rail-Trail as previously designed.

The owners will provide 10 feet of open space on the sides of the residences for grass, shrubs and flowers.

Commissioner Paul Geissinger commented that with condo developments, monthly fees are paid to the association for maintenance.

"We have enough problems with single-family homes that don't cut their grass," Geissinger said.

Ganguzza indicated the township will not be responsible for ensuring the properties are maintained. Briarwood Commons, located in the township, is an example on how such a project works.

"I think it's a good idea, it gives people an opportunity to do something different," Commissioner President Linda Snyder said.

The developers gave no timetable for groundbreaking.

The project does not have to go before the planning commission because the changes made to the plan are minor.
