Four incumbent Coplay Borough councilmen managed to hold off two challengers in Tuesday's election.

Democrats Charles Sodl, Lou Bodish, Steve Burker and Carl Luckenbach each received enough votes to hold on to their seats on council. They defeated Republican challenger Mel Procanyn and Libertarian Alex Humanick.

A total of 693 people turned out at the polls casting 485 votes for Sodl, 482 votes for Bodish, 473 votes for Burker and 350 votes for Luckenbach, according to unofficial results posted on the Lehigh County Board of Elections website.

Luckenbach's tally represents 15 percent of the votes, while the other three candidates each earned approximately 21 percent of the votes.

Procanyn garnered 258 votes while Humanick earned 242. Both tallies represent approximately 11 percent of the votes.

In the race for a two-year seat, Democrat Joseph Groller earned 388 votes, or 64 percent, over challenger Procanyn, who received 216 or 36 percent of the votes.

Groller, who is currently serving a four-year term on council that expires in December, will fill the remainder of the unexpired term of Matthew Recker, who resigned over the summer because he moved outside the borough.

Luckenbach was appointed to fill Recker's seat until December. He was elected to a four-year term independent of the seat held by Recker.

Mayor Joseph Bundra, who defeated challenger Frank Reichl in the primary to run unopposed, received 592 votes.

Coplay Councilman Bill Leiner Jr., a Democrat, lost his bid for a seat on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners.

He earned 4.410 votes, or 43 percent, compared to incumbent Tom Creighton, a Republican, who received 57 percent of the votes, or 5,843, according to unofficial results.

Leiner has two years left on his term on Coplay council.
