School begins Sept. 2 this year.
Still, however, no crossing guards are planned for any of the bus stops in the borough.
There haven't been crossing guards in town for years. Borough police patrol the areas where children wait for the school bus and return home in the afternoon. In cases where younger children wait for the bus, parents, grandparents and guardians wait with them.
The bus drivers are vigilant in ensuring the safety of children.

Many in town may have noticed a large number of mostly high school age boys and girls in a measured pace traveling from Northampton, across the Coplay-Northampton Bridge, and south on Second Street to the borough's boundary with Hokendauqua and then returning to Northampton.
The young men and women are members of the Konkrete Kids cross country team.
The recent hot, steamy weather has not slowed down their training regimen and their pace.

Two more upcoming events in the borough are sure to attract large crowds.
One is the Community Days festival slated for Aug. 22-25 and the second is the American Club of Coplay annual picnic held at its grounds off Cherry Street in September.
These events will conclude a summer of family-oriented events for 2013.

A large tree on Chestnut Street, off Ruch Street near Paulie's Restaurant, has been taken down. It was removed due to the construction of storm water catch basins.
Some say the tree had lost its luster since PPL began pruning it because of nearby utility wires.
No new tree will be planted.
