Whitehall Township Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr., in a recent report to the Board of Commissioners, disclosed that 152 businesses in the township have failed to pay the Local Service Tax.

The tax is levied annually on people working in the township.

Hozza said the township and Berkheimer Associates Inc., the firm contracted to collect the delinquent Local Service Tax, are continuing efforts to bring in the money owed the township for 2012.

A number of businesses, township commissioners were informed, did not make file the taxes last year. No data is available on how much money is owed the township.

On a more positive note, Hozza said, "Good news occurred in that Whitehall Mall's three properties as well as the St. Stephen's parcel discontinued their real estate assessment appeal."

Interviews for summer employment have begun by the township's Human Resource Officer for positions at Camp Whitehall, the three swimming pools and for summer maintenance staffing positions.

In a new development, the administration disclosed the township submitted paperwork to the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement Service to initiate a defined contribution pension plan for all nonuniformed employees hired from this point forth. An ordinance will be forwarded to the township for consideration and a vote.
