Kids keep it going

Northampton kept their hot streak going again on Tuesday night, sweeping Nazareth in three games by a 25-17, 25-19, 25-11 margin.

It was the fourth straight win for the K-Kids, who upped their season mark to 8-3 and positioned themselves in the fourth spot of the District 11 3A postseason standings.

Following last week's victory over Becahi, which may have been the biggest upset on paper ever in the Lehigh Valley Conference, the Kids mentality hasn't change.

That's because they were always confident.

"The kids knew from the beginning of the season that they could compete with anyone in the league," Kids' head coach Doug Fehnel said. "The win over Beca was proof of that. We played Whitehall and Parkland tough but came up short. We will get another shot at both divisional powerhouses. The guys have been playing well as a team, with a high intensity level."

Dakota Wilson led the distribution of play again by tallying 24 assists Tuesday night, while Josh Palenchar added 10 kills. Josh Wilson had six kills as well.

Wilson has been one of the Kids main weapons this year orchestrating the offense and Fehnel knows he's the key that makes the engine rev.

"Dakota is the quarterback of the offense," Fehnel said. "He's doing a good job of moving the ball around to the different offensive weapons. Middle hitters Josh Wilson and Fred Antonelli are doing well at the net blocking and hitting."

Doing well at the net has been another aspect of the Kids' play that has caused matchup and strategic issues for opposing teams, as the Kids are one of, if not, the tallest team in the league.

With that aside, they'll focus on blocking Allen from an unlikely victory on Friday before next week's bouts with Easton and Liberty.

Then they'll get back into divisional play, where they'll hope to make a run at qualifying for the LVC playoffs.

The Kids will need some things to go their way, starting with a win over Liberty next week, followed by a must-win game against Whitehall down the road.

"It is going to be really difficult to make leagues, since we have already lost to divisional foes, Parkland and Whitehall," Fehnel said. "The kids still have that in their sight since they get another chance at both programs. Hopefully they can make things interesting at the end of the season and knock off one of the regulars."
