LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls keep it going

A runaway victory, a no-hitter, another shutout, and a solid win.

That tells the story of unbeaten Northampton's softball fortune this past week.

The Konkrete Kids, now 14-0 overall with eight Lehigh Valley Conference wins and six nonleague decisions, head into the homestretch with visions of an unbeaten season.

"The girls are kind of tired, but they're pushing harder to move forward," said Coach Sally Whittaker-Kahan. "We have six tough foes ahead of us and four of them are away games and hopefully we get into the conference playoffs with the top seed."

The Konkrete Kids are getting contributions from everyone and, "we're solid up-and-down the lineup," said Whittaker-Kahan.

This past weekend started with a runaway 14-2 win over Freedom, an LVC East contender, as senior Tori Gollie went 5-for-5 with six RBIs and Marly Laubach scattered four hits.

Then Saturday, Laubach reached new heights as the senior hurled a no-hitter against Mountain Valley Conference power Stroudsburg. The senior racked up 15 strikeouts in the 3-0 victory.

Back in LVC play on Monday, the Kids trounced Central Catholic 9-0 with junior Bri Dalton and senior Erin Tiwold smacking three-run homers - Dalton's coming in the first and Tiwold's in the fifth.

Then Tuesday, Laubach struck out 12 as Northampton topped Saucon Valley 6-1 in a nonleague game. Gollie had a two-run "outta the park" home run and junior catcher Hannah Peters went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Northampton's regular season play continued with an away game at Allen Wednesday, after Press deadlines, and another road game at Easton Friday.

Then it's Liberty at home Tuesday, at Whitehall next Thursday with the season winding up with a Senior Night contest against Parkland May 7 and at Nazareth May 9.
