LVC wins at Via
Spring sports have began in the Northampton area, but there was still a little basketball to be played this past weekend at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem Township.
All stars from the Lehigh Valley Conference East faced off with all stars from the Mountain Valley Conference on "Super Saturday" at the Via All Star Basketball Classic.
The day also featured two games between the Lehigh Valley West and the Colonial League all stars squads in the early afternoon along with a Special Olympics Shootout.
In the Opening game of the late afternoon session the Lehigh Valley East girls handled the Mountain Valley girls for a 97-55 victory. On the boys side, there wasn't much defense involved, which was expected, as the Lehigh Valley East boys defeated the MVC boys 114-102.

As noted, defense was a rarity in this one, but entertainment was plentiful. There were highlight dunks throughout the ball game, but when it was all said and done the LVC had too much length and talent on the floor for the MVC squad.
The LVC East squad featured two Division 1 commits in Liberty's 6-7 forward Greg Noack (Monmouth) and Bethlehem Central Catholic's 6-10 center Matt Husek (Holy Cross). Both players finished in double figures on the day with Noack finishing with 25 points, including four dunks, while Husek tallied 16.
The lone Northampton representation on the LVC East roster was Konkrete Kids senior Derek Kulp. Kulp finished with a solid nine points on the the day and plans to play basketball for the Spartans at Northampton Community College next winter.
"It was exciting to get out there and play with guys that I competed against my entire career," said Kulp. "It was just really fun. I just told myself before the game to go out there and share the ball and put up some shots when I had the opportunity. The best part of playing with so many talented guys is the game itself becomes a lot easier. Everyone knows how to play the game the right way, it just makes playing so much more enjoyable."
Pleasant Valley's Devon Howard scored a game-high 31 points for the MVC squad, while Stroudsburg's David Clowney also had a nice game, scoring 25.

The LVC East girls squad showed why once again they are regarded as one of the top conferences in the state, taking no prisoners, defeating the MVC all stars by 42 points.
Northampton was represented by two players in this year's Via All Star Basketball Classic.
Seniors Ashley Brink and Michele Dally scored eight points and four point respectively to help the LVC East squad crush the MVC.
"It's just a really fun experience to play in an event like this," said Brink. "It makes you feel good about all the hardwork you put in over your career. It means that somebody has noticed, that why we're all here. Playing with these girls was an honor as well. There are some really good basketball players on this team and it showed in our performance today."
"In the beginning you're just trying to feel out the game and get accustomed to the pace and habit of your teammates," said Dally. "It's also kind-of laid back too in the beginning. Then at the end we were getting to the 80 point mark, then 90, and then we were really trying hard to get to 100. It was just a really fun day."
The Calabrese sisters from Nazareth were also a big reason for the LVC East's dominance on the afternoon as they torched the opposing guards from the MVC. Morgan Calabrese netted 20 points, including four triples, while Molly came up with 13 points of her own.
For the MVC squad Stephanie Davis from East Stroudsburg South led all scores with 22 points.
