Tennis team wins two matches

The Northampton tennis team started off its season 2-1 with wins over Jim Thorpe and Allen before falling to Pocono East.

Singles players Geoff Rybitsky and Josh Schoenberger are off to good starts winning all three of their matches.

Rybitsky won by injury default against Thorpe, but recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Allen's Ian Miller. He needed three sets to knock off Pocono's Zach van Zup 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Schoenberger didn't give up more than three points in any of his matches thus far, winning all of them in two sets.

Tyler Nicholas posted a singles win at number-three for NHS against Jim Thorpe over Kyle Bacher 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Dave Wasilko won at number-three singles for NHS against Ben Gilbert of Allen, 6-3, 7-5.

The four doubles team of Justin Burger and Andrew Serensits, and the one team of John Yean and Ross Miller, both won versus the Olympians. Nicholas and Burger won at two doubles against Allen while there were two other forfeit wins versus the Canaries.

Burger and Nicholas were the lone doubles winners against Pocono East, needing three, close sets: 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
