LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Softball team ready to get season started

"It's been difficult practicing indoors," said Northampton softball coach Sally Whittaker-Kahan on Tuesday.

"We've had only four days outside and Tuesday was the fourth. We had a very productive session and we'll be ready when we start playing."

Northampton, which had two games postponed by the weather over the weekend, officially began the season Wednesday, after Press deadlines, at home with a nonleague game against Pleasant Valley.

The Kids open Lehigh Valley Conference play today against Whitehall at home then play a busy schedule with a morning game Saturday at home against Governor Mifflin.

The schedule gets busy next with Parkland away Tuesday, at Northern Lehigh Wednesday and at home with Nazareth on Thursday.

"We have 12 solid athletes," said Whittaker-Kahan. "It's been an interesting few weeks and we're still trying to see who fits in where. It's a good problem to have."

Whittaker-Kahan, starting her fifth season with a 58-35 record says, "It certainly slowed us down practicing indoors because we didn't have an entire team on the field (gym) at the same time. But we've still got our cuts in."

"It's a challenge, but we'll adjust. We'll be mentally tough. But it's been stressful. However, mostly everybody else is in the same situation," she concluded.
