Alberta Scarfaro announced her candidacy for magisterial district judge Feb. 7.

She seeks a seat in District Court 31-1-07, serving Whitehall and Coplay.

Scarfaro has lived in Whitehall for more than a decade. Her children are Madison, a junior at Whitehall High School, and Christian, a seventh-grader at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School.

She said she is running because she believes in upholding the integrity and impartiality of the state judiciary. She is dedicated to ensuring that every one who walks into her court is treated fairly and without prejudice or preconceived notions.

Scarfaro said she is committed to maintaining the quality of life and safety in the community.

Scarfaro attended the certification training for prospective magisterial judges in Harrisburg and passed the exam required by the state. She is already certified and qualified to perform the duties of magisterial district judge.

Scarfaro holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master of public administration, both from Kutztown University.

While working toward her master's degree at at Kutztown University, Scarfaro was approved for an independent study that involved shadowing different magisterial district judges. Through this program, she spent numerous days sitting in the courtroom observing court proceedings and the conduct of the court.

She said she is grateful to the judges who allowed her to observe them. She has great respect for their integrity and their willingness to allow her to learn so much.

Scarfaro is experienced as a supervisor, instructor, paralegal and property manager. As property manager, she represented landlords in court as well as filing all necessary documents.

Scarfaro is also a member of the Whitehall Township Zoning Hearing Board, a quasi-judicial body.
