Members of the Lehigh County Farm Bureau traveled to Freddy Hill Farm, Lansdale, Feb. 18 to celebrate Food Check-Out Week.
Food Check-Out Week recognizes growing and raising healthy food is a farmer's top priority and focuses on helping consumers eat healthy meals, despite dealing with tight food budgets.
The theme of the year's Food Check-Out Week, which was celebrated from Feb. 17-23, was "Stretching Your Grocery Dollar with Healthy, Nutritious Food."
Each year, Lehigh County Farm Bureau, along with Berks, Bucks, Chester/Delaware, Montgomery and Northampton/Monroe County farm bureaus collect food, cash, gift cards and other contributions to the Ronald McDonald Houses in Philadelphia.
This year, the six county farm bureaus raised $16,085 in contributions.
The Food Check-Out Week program is in its 15th year and Pennsylvania farmers have collected more than $838,540 in donations since the program was initiated in 1998.
