PMW knocks out NHS

The season is over, and all-in-all, it wasn't a bad year.

Although the Northampton Konkrete Kids' record was 11-13, Coach Jeff Jacksits' girls finished with a flurry for a respectful season.

"The girls didn't quit," Jacksits would say after Friday's 46-38 loss to District 11's top seed Pocono Mountain West in the Class 4A tourney.

'The girls didn't quit' could well be said for the whole season, which started with only four wins in the Kids' first 15 games.

But a six-game win streak shot Northampton into the playoffs and the Kids opened district play with a 52-25 romp over Stroudsburg before losing to PM West for the second time this season.

The Kids, who lost 59-41 in early February, looked like "a different team" Friday as they hung in against the Panthers. On Friday, Northampton trailed just 31-30 with a little more than six minutes remaining.

But, the roof caved in a bit as PM West scored nine-straight points to wrap up the win and a spot against Bangor in the district semifinals.

Northampton was again led by junior Leandra Sterner with 18 points as she wrapped up her season with 312 points. Senior Ashley Brink scored only two and finished her career with 180 points total while junior Kayla Csencsits had six points for a total of 174. Senior Michele Dally closed out her career with another outstanding floor game.

With only Brink and Dally graduating, the Kids should be in good shape with starters Sterner, Csencsits and junior Zeniyah Sanders returning next season.

Coach Jacksits, who has a 152-85 record after nine seasons, should have a lot of players back next year including: Erica Filipovits, Autumn Klucsarits, Amber Farnholtz, Giovanna Martinez, Sophia Eckroth, Amber Saylor and Ali Reppert getting experience.

Just remember, 11 of the Kids' 13 losses came to playoff teams like: PM West, Nazareth, Parkland, Bethlehem Catholic, Pleasant Valley, Central Catholic and Central Dauphin. Wins over playoff teams included Parkland, Liberty, Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South and Holy Redeemer.
