Four Kids sign dotted line
Four Northampton student-athletes signed the dotted line last week to solidify their future college destinations.
And as much as moving away from home means for many prospective students, three out of the four K-Kids at last Wednesday's signing will be staying together in Philadelphia.
Softball star Tori Gollie, field hockey's tandem of Emily Nonnemacher and Megan Tiwold, along with state qualifying golfer Evan Notaro all made things official last week.
Gollie, a 2011 Lehigh Valley Conference all-star, will head into this spring with her mind free from college distractions, as she'll be attending LaSalle.
The field hockey duo of Nonnemacher and Tiwold are going separate ways, as Nonnemacher is heading to St. Joseph's University, while Tiwold chose Kutztown to pursue a degree in education.
Nonnemacher, who was a 2011 league all-star and all-state honorable mention recipient, is Northampton's third all-time leading scorer.
She suffered a torn ACL with seven games left in the regular season during the 2012 campaign and was hopeful that it wouldn't affect how teams perceived her playing future.
"I wanted to stay positive and think everything was going to be fine, but in reality I was nervous about how my injury would effect me," Nonnemacher said. "All the coaches that were interested were responsive after the injury, but St. Joe's coach assured me that it wasn't going to be a problem. That made me feel much better."
Notaro was a District 11 champion his junior year and was a runner-up this past season. He finished 10th overall in the PIAA tournament last fall and maintained a shooting average of 70.9 throughout his career.
He'll be heading to Temple to help bring plenty of black and orange to Philadelphia.
"Hopefully all of us can keep in touch when we're in the city," he said of his fellow classmates. "We've all grown up together and it's been great knowing them throughout the years at Northampton."
