The Northampton hockey team has stumbled a bit lately, losing two-straight, and the Kids haven't won since a 7-4 decision on Jan. 4, over Easton.

But, Daniel Farkas broke free from the pack and scored what proved to be the game-winner in a hard-ought, penalty-laden, 3-2 Northampton win Monday night at Lehigh Valley Ice Arena over Emmaus.

Just 33 seconds after Emmaus (10-3-2) tied the game at 2-2, Farkas ruined the Hornets celebration by using his speed to fly down ice on a pass from Gunnar Mushko. Farkas then slipped a shot by the glove of Hornet goalie Michael Smoker for the 3-2 lead.

Emmaus got on the board first as Drew Phillipes continued his tear on the league's points lead with a goal coming just over six minutes in on a pass that was flicked over the defender's stick by Nicholas Capizzi. That gave Emmaus a 1-0 lead. David Bailey had just missed a score a few minutes before the goal thanks to a diving save from Kids goalie Adam Orsulak.

Northampton's Derrick Wruble tied it at 1-1 with a power play goal three minutes into the second period.

The game had a playoff-like feel to it with big checks as well as some chippiness. There were a total of 14 penalties, seven for each team, but two of the three Konkrete Kids goals were scored on the power play.

Northampton (7-6-1) had more chances, too, as the Kids outshot Emmaus 34-19, 18 shots coming in the second period alone.

Mushko gave the Kids a 2-1 lead with a power play goal.

But a Capizzi hit a slapshot from the blue line beat Orsulak and tied the game at 2-2 before Farkas' heroics. The pass came from Kevin Foster and Phillipes.

Northampton will play its final game of the regular season, a matchup against Pleasant Valley/Quakertown, next Monday night at the Lehigh Valley Ice Arena. The Konkrete Kids have clinched the top seed in the Non-Pure Division, and will compete in the playoffs in about two weeks. All signs point to a matchup with Easton.

Despite the loss, Smoker had another solid night in goal for the Hornets, recording 31 saves. This game also saw $1 go to benefit Pediatric Cancer for each save made by Smoker.
