Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will have its third annual soup and dessert contest noon Feb. 3 to benefit World Hunger.

Prizes will be awarded for the best soup and dessert, which are prepared and contributed by participants.

There is a fee to attend the luncheon featuring the soups and dessert.

That same Sunday, Union Lutheran will take part in the Souper Bowl of Caring, sponsored by faith communities across the country to address the problem of hunger.

The event is associated seasonally with the Super Bowl football game whose festivities often involve a great deal of fun and food.

Churches have chosen to highlight the needs of children and other individuals who do not have enough to eat.

Union Lutheran will collect contributions in large soup kettles to help organizations that feed and shelter local hungry people.

Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 12, Union Lutheran will have a worship service at 7 p.m., followed by a time for fellowship and fastnachts.

At St. John's United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, youth will be asking worshippers to join them in remembering Lehigh Valley families in need by contributing to a monetary offering Feb. 3 during the Souper Bowl of Caring.

Donations will benefit the soup kitchen at the Lehigh County Conference of Churches.

St. John's UCC will begin the season of Lent with a 7:30 p.m. service on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, encourages worshippers to bring canned soup along to church Feb. 3 for Souper Bowl Sunday.

All canned soup and cash donations will be delivered to the Northern Lehigh Food Bank.

Union UCC will have a pancake supper 6 p.m. Shrove Tuesday Feb. 12.

Entertainment follows the meal. The church youth will be the servers.

The Neffs UCC Preschool will have an open house 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 6. Families are invited to meet the teachers and see the classrooms.

The preschool offers sessions for children ages 3 and 4, and pre-kindergarten.

Snow date is Feb. 13.
