Lowhill sets pay rates for new year

Lowhill supervisors approved 3 percent pay raises for Secretary Jill Seymour, Roadmaster Carl Kressley, Assistant Roadmaster Joe Kalusky, and road crew members Dean Newhard and Joe Plaska.

"I think they did a great job," said Chairman Richard Hughes, who introduced the motion for the raises.

Judy Hoffman's pay as recording secretary for the planning commission was also raised to $19.06 per hour, to equal Seymour's.

Hoffman's work as secretary and permit clerk is paid indirectly through Weisenberg Township, since she is employed by both townships, as are Administrator Brian Carl and Secretary Melanie Hansen.

Supervisor Frank Dengler moved to increase the charges for plowing Aspen Court from $95 to $100 per hour and from $80 to $90 per ton of salt.

Hughes said plowing was done once so far this season.

Kressley said the township's cost for the salt is $62 per ton. The motion carried.

No business was conducted at the Jan. 8 meeting of township auditors.

This was primarily an information session for the new auditors. Another meeting date will be set to elect a chairperson and secretary and to set pay rates for working supervisors.

Seymour told The Press there are currently no working supervisors, meaning those who also serve as road crew when the need arises.

She said township Solicitor Charles Waters would look into whether establishing the pay rates is mandatory in that case.
