Pennsylvania state Representative-elect Dan McNeill will take his oath of office at noon Tuesday, Jan. 1.

McNeill will begin serving the 133rd Legislative District following the ceremony at the capital. McNeill fills the seat held by Joseph Brennan, who chose not to seek re-election.

McNeill resides with his wife, Jeanne, and family in Hokendauqua. The 133rd District includes much of Whitehall Township, Coplay, Catasauqua and parts of Bethlehem.

A Democrat, McNeill was chosen to be the party's candidate by committee members in a vote held at the Fullerton fire hall over the summer. Several other individuals also sought the committee's endorsement.

McNeill said the Catasauqua office on Bridge Street was closed earlier by the state. The office on Fourth Street in Bethlehem will continue to serve constituents.

Bob Donches, who headed Brennan's Bethlehem office, will remain at the helm. Donches, a city councilman in Bethlehem, is expected to run for mayor in the city.

Cara Bowen and Brenda Pagan, who is bilingual, are part of McNeill's staff.

The former Whitehall Township executive and commissioner has an extensive background in labor relations.

"That's my first choice," McNeill said, requesting appointment to the Labor and Industry Committee. He is also interested in committee assignments related to aging.

A bus carrying 55 of McNeill's friends and supporters will leave the Lehigh Valley on Tuesday morning to attend McNeill's inauguration as a state assemblyman.
