LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Konkrete Kids look to find new stars

Northampton wrestling may never change in it's pride and history and second-year head coach Seth Lisa hopes that mantra stays even more true this season.

The K-Kids are coming off a 9-8 season a year ago where they sent three wrestlers to states, two of which are gone to graduation.

This season, however, they return eight starters back into their lineup in a campaign that Lisa hopes can transcend the results the program witnessed in his first year at the helm.

"It takes a lot of people, coaches and dedicated parents to get the success that we all want," Lisa said. "We feel that the culture at Northampton has never changed, it just takes a little reminding to the wrestlers who are coming up through the youth what Northampton wrestling is all about."

Zach Valley (126) figures to be Northampton's top gun this season as he enters his junior year, fresh off a sophomore campaign that saw him place fifth in the state at 113 a year ago, as well as take third at both the district and regional tournaments.

Sophomore Michael Scheetz (113), senior Paul Hetrick (132) and junior Bobby Fehr (160) round out Lisa's core returning wrestlers to the lineup. Scheetz and Fehr were both regional qualifiers last season, while Hetrick qualified two years ago.

Finding new star power is now on the itinerary for this year's group of K-Kids if Lisa and company want to compete for the Lehigh Valley Conference and district titles.

"Expectations will always be high and all of our kids know that," Lisa said. "We want to be the best and it takes a lot of hard work to even be in the conversation with all of the great teams in our conference.

"A lot of our guys have done a lot of wrestling this spring, summer and fall and they will be ready to compete with the best kids this season. This season we have to learn from our previous mistakes to keep ourselves mentally and physically in every match."

That also starts with the work being done at youth levels, which is something that Lisa is excited about moving forward.

"The coaches at our feeder programs have great numbers and have doing an incredible job preparing the young wrestlers for the next level," he said. "I feel that the program is operating at a high level and everyone involved needs to continue their hard work and dedication to our program."
