Three Pittsburgh residents were arrested on Oct. 11 in Upper Macungie Township for allegedly trafficking narcotics.

According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained from District Judge Michael Faulkner's office, State Trooper Jonathan R. Gerken was driving a marked police cruiser with Trooper Matthew Lowe at 9:21 p.m. Oct. 10 when they saw a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling 19 mph over the speed limit along I-78, Weisenberg Township.

A traffic stop was conducted on the sport utility vehicle containing driver Alicia Renee Atkinson, 35; front seat passenger Todd Lamont Holmes, 43, owner of the vehicle; Lateef Stubblefield, 39, and a fourth passenger for speeding, Gerken states in the affidavit.

Gerkin states, upon speaking with Atkinson, who appeared to be extremely nervous, he returned to his vehicle and ran a background check on Atkinson and the passengers.

According to the affidavit, Holmes and Stubblefield allegedly have extensive criminal histories for firearms and narcotics trafficking violations.

Gerken states in the affidavit after issuing Atkinson a written warning for speeding, he asked Holmes for permission to search his vehicle.

Upon searching the SUV, both Gerken and Lowe allegedly smelled the odor of fresh marijuana coming from the passenger compartment.

According to the affidavit, he also saw a large amount of cash bundled with rubber bands in a purse on the front passenger floorboard.

A search warrant was obtained and numerous packages of bulk currency and approximately 50 bundles of heroin, which were packaged for sale, were found inside the SUV.

Lowe tested the suspected heroin using a Nik Test Kit A and allegedly obtained a positive result.

Gerkin states Atkinson and her three passengers, who were at a local hotel, all denied knowledge of the heroin or the money.

Atkinson, Holmes and Stubblefield were charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to manufacture or deliver the heroin.

The three were arraigned before District Judge Michael Faulkner on Oct. 11 and held in Lehigh County Prison under $750,000 bail.

According to Lehigh County court records, the third passenger in the SUV was not charged.
