Detectives from the Whitehall Township Police Department continue to assist in an investigation conducted by the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office of a cold case homicide which took place in 1977.

At the Whitehall Mall 35 years ago, a woman was shot to death, said Police Chief Linda J. Kulp in a report Oct. 8 to the township Board of Commissioners and Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr.

The cold case investigation into the homicide has been ongoing for months. There was no time frame provided as to the conclusion, progress or outcome of the case.

The report also included information on other cases police handled last month.

In one case, detectives are investigating the theft of a "large sum of money" from a township resident's bank account. The debit card to the account was stolen from the resident's home and the woman suspects a family member is responsible.

An investigation continues into a suspicious death which occurred in August. An elderly man was found dead by his wife on her return home.

Joining the police in the investigation is the county coroner's office, which has not issued a ruling as the cause of death.

Seven September burglaries are under investigation by detectives. The burglaries involved six residences and one apartment. The commissioners and mayor were informed suspects have been identified in one of the cases.

There was one attempted robbery and home invasion incident last month. A possible suspect has been identified and the investigation continues. Those involved did not steal anything and no one was injured, it was reported.

The victim at an earlier robbery at Burlington Coat Factory identified the suspect from a photo lineup and detectives are waiting for a decision from the DA's office on what steps they will take next in the investigation.

Detectives have developed two suspects in the theft of $8,700 from Walmart. Two women scooped up $100 and $50 bills while reaching into two cash drawers. A cashier at the store identified the women and the investigation continues.

Lehigh County investigator Kevin Smith and township detectives continue an investigation into a report of rape. The victim said she was picked up in Allentown and driven to Whitehall where she is alleged to have been assaulted and raped.

Two cases of suspected child pornography are under investigation. The suspects' omputers were seized and are in the custody of state police for analysis.

In another incident, a bomb threat at Whitehall High School is under investigation.
