Lehigh Valley Health Network will administer free seasonal flu vaccinations for adults and children 6 months and older during two community sessions in November.

Shots will be all drive-thru at Dorney Park from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 3 and at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 each day.

Once again this year LVHN is partnering with area food banks and shelters including the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank, Allentown Rescue Mission and the AIDS Activities Office food pantry to accept donations of non-perishable food items that have not expired during each of the drive-thru sessions. Food donations are optional and not required to receive a shot.

Those planning to receive a shot are urged to register online in advance. Hourly slots are available for both sessions.

Reservation times are estimates and not guaranteed. A vaccine information statement, consent form, link to online registration and maps of both locations are available at lvhn.org by clicking on the box "Programs and Events/Events."

According to Terry Burger, RN, LVHN's director of infection control and prevention, the vaccine supply is plentiful this year and so the public should not be concerned about being able to get a shot.

"Online registration has been a big help in ensuring that the process flows more smoothly," Burger said. "Pre-registering limits the wait for those who want a shot and also avoids traffic backups by better coordinating the number of people who come for a shot in any given hour."

Burger said the change, along with the cooperation of partners Dorney Park, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, and local police departments kept traffic moving normally on the roads around each venue each of the past two years. She is encouraging people to try to register for the afternoon time slots because the lines tend to be shorter meaning little or no waiting to get a shot.

Burger said in addition to trying protecting as many people as possible from the flu, this year's vaccine campaign again will feature a food drive.

Those receiving a shot can drop-off non-perishable food items to be distributed to local food banks.

She is stressing that those who want to contribute food make sure it has not expired.

Those planning to receive a flu shot during LVHN's November drive-thru vaccinations are asked to abide by the following requests:

·Access a vaccine information sheet and consent form for each person to be vaccinated at lvhn.org, or request forms by calling 610-402-CARE.

·Complete the consent form and bring it along to the drive-thru event.

·Dress appropriately. Wear loose-fitting clothing for the shot to be administered in the arm of an adult and the leg of children less than 2 years old.

·No pets should be in the vehicle.
