Attorney Lawrence Fox spoke with Upper Ma-cungie supervisors again concerning the Iron Run Motel project.

Accompanying him at the Oct. 4 meeting was Jeff Barry, regional director of the East Coast for Best Western Hotels.

He presented copies of contracts related to the site and also elaborated on the proposal.

According to Barry, there would be 50 extended stay suites built on the site.

This development is much smaller than most due to the lot size. Most new projects have from 80 to 100 suites with 64 percent expected occupancy rate.

Fox and Barry implored the board to allow them to start the project as soon as possible.

Township Solicitor Andrew Schantz said this project could not move as quickly as they would like.

In addition to supervisors' approval, they would need zoning hearing board and planning commission approval. They did appear before zoners but obtained a limited amount of relief and have appealed the decision to the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas. The appeal is scheduled to be heard Nov. 30.

Stephen Cihylik, a commercial real estate broker, testified as to the possibilities of the lot.

He claimed some uses permitted in the ordinance could not be placed on the lot due to its size. After a lengthy discussion, supervisors decided to await the outcome of the appeal.

In other matters, Supervisor Kathy Rader gave the recreation board report.

A game night is planned for Jan. 25, 2013. If the interest is there, this could be held on a regular basis.

A boater safety class is being offered 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 9, 2013, at Independent Park, 150 Independent Road, Breinigsville.

Many programs are proposed for 2013, including health lectures, yoga, zumba, a father and daughter tea and flea market. A hunter safety course is being offered Oct. 20 and 21.

November will include the Women's Self Defense Class on Nov. 7 and the AARP Safe Driver Class offered on various dates.

Prior to the supervisors meeting, the sewer authority met to discuss the rehabilitation of sanitary sewer lines.

This will be a cooperative project with Upper and Lower Macungie townships, and Alburtis and Macungie. J.M.F. Underground Inc., of Mechanicsburg, was awarded the bid for $878,347.25, with Upper Macungie's share $292,897.25
