'Alice in Wonderland Jr.' onstage Oct. 24, 25 at OMS

Orefield Middle School Drama Club students have been rehearsing diligently to present Disney's musical "Alice in Wonderland Jr."

This one-act play tells the story of a young girl named Alice, who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world.

The musical is based on the book "Alice's Adventure in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll and the 1951 Walt Disney Animation Studios film "Alice in Wonderland."

Malerie Razzis portrays Alice. Lisa Conte plays the Cheshire Cat.

"Alice is very imaginative, a dreamer and she always dreams of Wonderland," Razzis said. "I [Alice] finally get to go there and I meet lots of interesting people."

Razzis likes her character's imagination and escaping into her own little world.

Conte said she can really put a lot of personality into playing the Cheshire Cat.

"The Cheshire Cat is really crazy and she goes with the flow," Conte said. "You never know what to expect from the cat because she just shows up."

Tyler Haney commented on his role as the Caterpillar.

"The Caterpillar is always happy and feels good about himself," Haney said. "He helps Alice feel better about herself, when she gets picked on."

Haney said he is like his characer, always happy and singing.

Liz Syslo portrays the Queen of Hearts. Max Hakim plays the Mad Hatter.

"The Queen of Hearts is a really evil character," Syslo said. "She wants everything done her way. If you don't follow her way, you lose your head."

She said playing the Queen of Hearts is a great way to let off stress of the day.

Hakim said the Mad Hatter is goofy and he enjoys being goofy onstage.

"The Mad Hatter is a big party animal. He doesn't have table manners but he thinks he does," Hakim said. "He and the March Hare are obsessed with tea and celebrating their unbirthdays 364 days a year."

Reese Diaz commented on his role as the White Rabbit.

"The White Rabbit is always late," Diaz said. "I like that he is always late because he just runs around the stage like a crazy person."

The musical is being directed and choreographed by Jonathan Lynch.

"The show follows a young girl named Alice on a magical adventure through Wonderland where she meets singing flowers, painting cards, an evil Queen, a very late rabbit, and many more," Lynch said. "I have always had a strong love for Disney and as a former Walt Disney World Cast member, I knew 'Alice in Wonderland' would be a perfect show for Orefield Middle School."

The drama club will perform "Alice in Wonderland Jr." 7 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25 in the OMS auditorium.

Tickets for the show are $3 and will be available at the door.
