Two bridges along Tilghman Street, Upper Macungie, are now open.

The project to replace the superstructure on the Tilghman Street Bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad and to completely replace the Tilghman Street Bridge over Chapmans Road began in March.

During construction, Tilghman Street was closed and detoured between Blue Barn and Farm Bureau roads with a detour using Routes 22 and 100, and I-78.

During the project, the intersection of Tilghman Street and Farm Bureau Road was temporarily reconfigured as a three-way stop controlled intersection with stop signs to allow access to and from Tilghman Street on the western side of the bridges.

The new Tilghman Street Bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad, constructed with steel girders, is 86 feet long and 57 feet wide.

The new bridge over Chapmans Road is a 110-foot long, 57-foot-wide concrete bulb T-beam bridge.

This section of Tilghman Street has an average daily traffic volume of 13,145 vehicles.

The general contractor on the $4,917,299 project was J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen.
