Lynn Twp. discusses taping meetings

Lynn Township Supervisor Justin Smith mentioned at the board's meeting on Aug. 9 a return to taping meetings due to a concern of transparency.

Unlike the minutes requiring board approval, a tape becomes public property and release is required immediately.

Solicitor Marc Fisher said supervisors would need to decide how long they want to keep the tapes.

Secretary Tammy White said the minutes are a very compressed version of what would be on a tape.

Township Administrator Kevin Deppe pointed out anyone can tape the meetings for himself.

Supervisor Brian Dietrich said bringing taping back is the right path because the board can prove what was said.

In other matters, Marvin Frantz submitted an application to supervisors for two properties on Blue Mountain House Road to be added to the Ag Security Area. The properties include 14.2 and .25 acres.

Roadmaster Bruce Raber's road report showed mowing and weed whacking was done. The crew delivered a load of scrap and received $180. Two trucks were repaired and dirt roads improved. Pipes were installed.

Raber recommended hiring Josh Huber for part-time work. This was approved by the board.

Jim Pollock of the Cell Site Landowners Association told the board he was not in favor of the township selling the cell tower site.

He does not see any more revenue coming from additional users on the tower.

His recommendation was to leave the tower on a five-year cycle, which adds 10 percent to the value of the lease each year.

Pollock was not concerned about decommissioning the tower in its rural area. New technology is requiring smaller spaces for antennas but rural decommissioning is not in the near future, he said.
