Trojan Varsity Alumni Club tees off for scholarships

Parkland's Trojan Varsity Alumni Club hosted another successful golf tournament at Iron Lakes Country Club.

Proceeds from the 16th annual golf tournament on Aug. 17 go toward a scholarship fund that annually awards a $2,000 scholarship to both a male and a female senior athlete at the high school.

To be eligible for the award, students must also serve their community.

This year's recipients were Matt Laub who played football. He will be attending Lehigh University.

Girls track recipient was Laura Gulliver, who will be attending East Stroudsburg University.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the alumni club also awarded $500 scholarships to Kyle Stinner and Elizabeth Andrews.

The tournament began with a memorial tribute to the late Dave Davis with James Ruhf playing "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes.

Davis, the owner of Willow Tree Grove, Orefield, was a huge benefactor to the students at Parkland as well as to the alumni club.
