Alburtis postmaster retires

For 24 years, Carol Miller, of Alburtis, has worked for the United States Postal Service.

She started her career in Neffs, and proceeded to work in Fogelsville, Macungie and Alburtis.

She has been a part-time mail carrier, full-time mail carrier, has been assigned to special detail and was postmaster in Neffs for four years and Alburtis for three years.

"My goal was to become postmaster in my hometown," Miller said, and she accomplished her goal.

Her last day was July 31.

She said many of the postmasters are retiring because of incentives given by the United States Postal Service.

"I wouldn't have retired if it were not for the incentive," Miller said.

Donna Ossman, a postal clerk for 27 years, will be taking over at the Alburtis Post Office until a permanent replacement arrives.

Miller says although she will miss the people she has served as postmaster in Alburtis, she has plenty of plans for her retirement.

"I would like to do volunteer work, church work, gardening, play the piano and ride bikes," Miller said.
